Becky as she is called was born in Biloxi, Mississippi; her family was from Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was 1 of 5 children. Her father was in the Air Force and was stationed at Keesler Air Force base during the Korean War. After her father was discharged they lived in Detroit, Michigan.
She had two sons, her youngest died 3 years ago after a long illness and she has two granddaughters and 1 grandson and loves spending time with them.
Becky said she married very young, did not finish high school but when she turned 18 she went back and got her GED. She also wanted to go to college but at that time she was not financial able until she moved to California in 1978. After she lived in Anaheim for a few years she checked into the college near her, at that time she was with a husband and 2 children so at the age of 24 she was able to enroll in Cypress Community College.
She said that “back then community colleges were free and just required a $5.00 registration fee and then you had to buy your own books”. She was able to finally get into their Radiology program and with a $90.00 monthly government grant she was able to pay for books and day care. It took her almost 5 years to complete the program and a year internship to get her AS degree in radiologic science. She said “I was so proud” it shows you that when one is determined that it can be done, the key is to never give up, as one can achieve their dreams as long as they stay focused on what they want to achieve. Becky kept her vision in place and because of that was able to accomplish her dreams.
After her divorce she moved to Tennessee and while there she went back to school and took classes in MRI physics and also did a couple of home study classes. In 1998 she took the MRI exam and moved up to MRI technologist at a small hospital in Athens, Tennessee.
But she missed her sons and her grand children so she moved back to California in 2005 to be near them.
She first lived in Temecula and then moved to Menifee in the Terra Shores area and worked for Kaiser Permanente for ten years. Last year in February she semi retired to simplify her life, and sold her home in Terra Shores in Menifee and bought her home in the Hillside retirement community also in Menifee.
When her son died at age 37, she said “I was so lost but my faith in God and my great need to be helpful to those around me has put me on this new path to be useful to productive to those in my community.” She has now started her own business “Becky’s Helping Hands” because she loves helping people and she knows that many of our seniors can at times use a helping hand. One thing I know for sure is that if they use Becky’s services they totally are in helping hands of wonderful women with a caring heart.
She also is a dog lover and has a cute dog named Jazz, how lucky I was to
