What is Halotherapy or Salt Therapy?

Dr. Michele Elliott, popularly known as Dr. May, Founder/CEO of Rise and Shine Holistic Wellness Centre, is an International Research Director in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (Eastern and Western), Medicine Modality and Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). Her degrees include, Phd., Health Science, Master of Science Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, (MSAOM)  R.Ac Complementary And Alternative Medicine, B.Sc Public Health.

She discovered halotherapy or salt therapy while traveling internationally. She had a vision of how the therapy would be beneficial for young children and adults who suffer from respiratory allergies such as asthma, bronchitis, common cold, cystic fibrosis, ear infections, fatigue syndrome, skin condition, including eczema and psoriasis. Children respond more quickly to salt therapy treatment than adults as their body is still developing.

Halotherapy is not a medical treatment of a cure to any disease. Instead, it is a preventative treatment in which a patient sits in a room filled with pure mineral salt while more salt particles are pumped through the air. Sessions are typically 45 minutes and the room is designed to replicate the natural salt caves in Eastern Europe.

The treatment is natural, non-invasive with no side effects. It has been around for hundreds of years in Eastern Europe. Research shows that people who frequently incorporate salt therapy treatment into their lifestyle benefit from the minerals in the salt which includes: magnesium, bromide, potassium, calcium & more. It helps improve respiratory and skin condition, relaxes, increases energy, detoxifies, and reduces stress during repeated sessions.

Over the Christmas holidays, Dr. May heard I was very sick. She called me and said: “Robbie, I heard you have been very sick for awhile and even though my clinic is not open today I will come in and give you a treatment of salt therapy. Find someone to bring you to the clinic. I know it will help you feel better faster than being on drugs."

I had never heard of salt therapy before but I was so sick for weeks I wasn’t able to get off the couch. Taking drugs from the doctor didn’t seem to help either. When the treatment was over I felt like a new person, relaxed, and rejuvenated. Sitting in a chair in this room filled with salt, I was able to breath again and increased my energy. What a wonderful experience. A few days later I was totally back to my old self again.

Dr. May has become a great friend and her passion is serving others and seeing them get better. When you are in her clinic she takes time with you and explains how everything works, and when you leave her treatments you feel wonderful.  I am so happy I discovered halotherapy or salt herapy and got to know this dynamic individual.

Dr. May became a NAFE member a few weeks after she was introduced to me by one of my NAFE member and Co-Director, Shelly Rufin.

Her clinic is located at 26489 Ynez Rd., Ste. C, Temecula, CA 92591 and you can reach Dr May at 951-395-9009.
