Hello book lovers! Just finished reading YOU’RE THE ONLY ONE I CAN TRUST, the new legal/mystery novel by local author/attorney Michael E. Petrie. This author’s style is fast-paced, witty, funny, light & easy. A real page-turner, I read it cover-to-cover just last weekend.

The story begins with the grisly shooting death of a wealthy L.A. businessman, killed at the home of his mistress ... a woman to whom his Will leaves a fortune. The police label it suicide. The grieving widow (who has a boyfriend of her own, but fears losing her husband’s fortune) is certain her husband was murdered by the mistress.

The mistress has a very checkered past, but there’s no shortage of other possible suspects with plenty of motive to commit such a crime: a former business partner cheated out of valuable real estate holdings; the tattooed biker/boyfriend of the widow who would like to see the husband gone; ... not to mention the widow herself, who was absolutely livid upon discovering her husband’s infidelity.

Enter the story’s central character: a burned-out attorney trying to escape the stress-filled practice of law, but is completely smitten with the sexy widow and, hoping to win her affections, agrees to help prove whether her husband was murdered. Searching for possible clues takes the reader on a wild ride to tropical islands and beaches, sailing and surfing, and to California’s inland valleys where some rather bizarre secrets and sexual peccadillos about the deceased are uncovered.
